Shape Jump is the game's signature trick and one of Michael's two fixed abilities: he enters darkness, moves rapidly — passing through walls and doors — and reappears somewhere else. It's the mechanical version of the film's "suddenly there" effect, and it's the reason a closed door never means safe.
How it works
From darkness, activate Shape Jump to shift into a fast traversal state. While jumping you ignore walls and doors, then reappear at your destination. The full rules of range and duration aren't officially documented; what's confirmed is the core loop — darkness in, rapid traversal, reappear.
The light restriction
Lights are the hard counter. Lit areas restrict Shape Jump (and drain the value of stealth generally, since light also reduces Bloodthirst). A well-lit house isn't Shape-proof, but it forces you to enter the slow way — which is exactly what defenders want. This is why the civilian meta revolves around lights, doors, and noise.
Using it well
- Jump from darkness you control into rooms you've scouted with Killer Sense — blind jumps into grouped civilians waste your opening.
- Use it to bypass barricaded doors rather than breaking them and announcing yourself.
- Cut power first: every dark room you create is Shape Jump fuel.
If you're a civilian
Your counterplay guide is here: how to counter Shape Jump. The one-line version: keep rooms lit, and never assume a wall between you and Michael is actually between you and Michael.
