The kitchen knife is where every Michael starts: his default weapon, and the most recognizable blade in horror. In kit terms it's the baseline — the weapon your Stalk levels make dangerous, rather than a weapon that carries you by itself.
What it does
Standard melee attacks, grabs, and the execution animations that challenges can expand. Damage scales with the systems around it: a level-3 Stalk Michael with the starting knife hits harder, grabs better, and tracks longer than a level-0 Michael with anything. The knife is a constant; Killer Sense is the variable.
Unlocks beyond it
Weapon unlocks exist — the axe is the established one, with further weapons unverified. Unverified Weapon usage also feeds its own XP track, so time on the knife isn't wasted even after alternatives unlock.
The other side of the blade
Civilians don't get the kitchen knife — their arsenal is the improvised household weapons pool, used for self-defense and knockdowns rather than hunting. If you're here for the fighting-back side, that page and lights, doors & noise are your reading.
Notes
- No credible reports of the starting knife being lost or disarmed mid-match. Unverified
- Execution animation variety ties to challenge rewards rather than the weapon itself. Reported
