Repair tools are the generalist entry in the item economy — the "make the thing work" category confirmed in the game's item roster (keys, gas, repair tools, fuses). Their most-cited job: getting a damaged escape vehicle roadworthy.
What they do
- Vehicle repair: reports pair tools with the car route when the vehicle spawns damaged — the third ingredient after keys and gas. Reported
- Route preparation generally: the multi-item nature of escapes ("some routes need multiple players' items") makes tools the flexible slot in most route recipes.
Where they spawn
Garages and workshop spaces per the reported pattern — the same sweep that finds gas tends to find tools, which is an argument for making one player the dedicated "utility looter" in the opening split.
Using them well
Repairs are stationary, noisy-feeling vulnerability windows. The rules that keep repairers alive:
- Repair early (while Michael is still NPC-stalking) or screened (a spotter watching approaches) — never alone at night's peak.
- If the map's gone dark around your work site, stop. Re-light first; a repair in Michael-made darkness is bait you're taking.
Notes & bugs
- Consumption behavior (one repair per tool vs. durability) is unverified. Unverified
