Car keys are the anchor requirement of the car escape — the highest-capacity, loudest way out of Haddonfield. Keys alone may not be enough: reports consistently pair them with gas and sometimes repair tools depending on the vehicle's condition. Reported
What they unlock
The car route: collect the requirements, ready the vehicle, load survivors, drive out. Full route comparison and staging advice live in escape routes & required items.
Where they spawn
Searchable locations, varying by match — houses near the vehicle are the intuitive first sweep, but no fixed spawn map has proven reliable. The minimap's key-item indicator shows who's carrying them, which matters more than where they started.
Who should carry them
The carrier is a priority target the moment Michael understands your plan — the minimap intel cuts both ways only in your team's favor if you use it. Two rules from the opening playbook apply:
- The carrier travels lit routes and doesn't solo-scout dark ground.
- The carrier is not the same player carrying the route's second requirement — splitting items splits risk.
Notes & bugs
- No confirmed reports of keys being lost on death versus dropped for recovery — plan as if retrieval is possible but contested. Unverified
