Chapter 2 Challenge 6 is a stealth discipline test built around Surprise — catching targets before they register you. It's the chapter where the game teaches you to read its alert indicators, and the challenge fails when you let those alerts escalate. The rules as players understand them are mostly consistent; the edge cases are not. This is Chapter 2's hardest credit.
How Surprise indicators work
Approaching a target unseen builds toward a Surprise state — the indicator shows you're positioned for a clean, undetected take. Reports describe it as a visual cue over or near the target that fills or changes state as you close distance out of their vision. Reported Strike while the Surprise state holds and the kill counts toward the challenge; get noticed first and that target's credit is gone.
What fails the challenge
- Full alerts. A target (or nearby NPC) detecting you and escalating to an alert state voids the Surprise credit — and reports agree an alert during your approach is the main killer.
- Rushing the last meters. Sprinting the final approach reportedly breaks Surprise even from behind — noise appears to factor in. Unverified
- Chained witnesses. Killing in view of another NPC can alert them and poison your next approach.
Route advice
Scout with Killer Sense first. Know where every nearby NPC is looking before you commit to an approach.
Work isolated targets first. Every clean kill reduces witnesses for the rest.
Approach in shadow, walk the last stretch. Slow is smooth here — the challenge has no timer in any credible report.
Reset if you're made. If an alert triggers, back off and let the area settle rather than forcing the next kill into a bad state.
Where reports conflict
If a run you're certain was clean still didn't credit, see challenges not counting before burning another attempt.
